The MB996SP-6SB Rugged Full Metal 6 x 2.5” SATA Hard Drive & SSD Backplane fits a standard 5.25” drive bay and enables installation of up to six 2.5” SATA drives or SSDs in a single external bay. Designed for professional environments such as medical and military systems, media servers, IPCs, HTPCs and All‑In‑One PCs, it provides a compact, high‑capacity solution for RAID, JBOD or mixed storage needs while maintaining a durable full‑metal construction.

Advantages

The unit supports complex RAID configurations (for example dual RAID‑5 arrays or mixed RAID‑0/RAID‑1 setups) and is suitable for small servers, gaming rigs and home media systems. Full metal housing improves heat dissipation and meets industrial flammability considerations. Anti‑Vibration Technology and EMI grounding enhance drive stability and reliability. Front LEDs show individual drive status and Active Power Technology powers LEDs and the fan only when a drive is present, reducing wear and power use. A centrally mounted 40 mm fan with 3‑mode speed control provides adjustable cooling or near‑silent operation.

• Typical applications: medical, military, media servers, IPC, HTPC, All‑In‑One

How to use

Install the MB996SP-6SB into a standard 5.25” bay following the chassis manufacturer’s instructions. Mount up to six 2.5” SATA drives or SSDs into the mobile rack bays, connect each bay to the backplane SATA connectors, and secure the unit in place. Configure the drives in the host system BIOS or RAID controller to create the desired RAID or JBOD arrangement. Use the fan speed control to select the appropriate cooling setting — higher for sustained performance workloads or lowest/off for quieter operation when thermal conditions allow.

Recommendations

For best results, use enterprise‑grade or manufacturer‑recommended 2.5” drives for RAID configurations and ensure proper airflow within the chassis. Regularly check drive status LEDs and monitor temperatures if running sustained high‑load or RAID rebuild operations.
